Moved into a new home and want your fireplace or log burner CHecked to make sure its safe?

Fireplace Homeowner Safety Inspection

Log Burner, Multi-Fuel Stove, Openfire Inspections across Wirral Liverpool & Chester

Why should you inspect the flue and chimney in your new home?

As a new homeowner we offer a comprehensive safety check for your solid fuel appliance, open fires, stoves, log burner and multi fuel stoves in the Wirral area

If you’ve just moved into a property with an existing fireplace (open fire, log burner or stove) it’s important to have the fireplace and chimney inspected.

Even if the previous owners were using the fire regularly that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a potentially dangerous accident waiting to happen.

When you have a homebuyer report done, the fireplace and inside of the chimney are not inspected unless paperwork has been supplied.

This means there could be issues that no one is aware of. You won’t know when the last inspection took place if there is no paperwork trial., so you need to check the health of your chimney to ensure its safety and performance.

Ideal if you have no paper work, service record etc and don't want to leave to chance.

  • Ground level check of chimney and terminal
  • Check over of visible parts of the install
  • Overall check of fire/stove and al internal components
  • Full sweep of flue serving the fire/stove
  • CCTV check of flue
  • Flue smoke draw test and spillage test
  • Paperwork documenting work undertaken with any advice and recommendations

log burner safety check WIRRAL, LIVERPOOL & CHESTER

We come across unsafe installs weekly I'm afraid, some are easy fixes if a blanking plate is loose/missing, rope needs replacing, firebricks, glass etc can all be resolved to bring the log burner up to a safe spec

There are other issues to contend with to make sure the stove is fitted safely and complies with UK building regulations, The photo here shows a closure plate being secured using a timber frame withing 6" on the flue pipe which is a major fire risk.

Chimney Fire Safety week, book a chimney inspection

What causes chimney fires? Chimney fires are often caused by a build up of tar/creosote or soot

Whatever you do, don’t try to clean your chimney yourself. Use a professional, accredited chimney sweep. They can inspect your chimney properly and give you a certificate when done.

As well as getting your chimney swept, you should also check the structure is all safe, well-maintained and up to the challenge of coping with modern heating appliances. We suggest lining your chimney if it isn’t already, which should be done by a qualified and certified chimney engineer.
