Regular cleaning will remove soot and creosote, helping prevent dangerous chimney fires. Cleaning will increase the efficiency of some appliances. Bird nests, cobwebs and other blockages will be removed.
If your chimney is not swept the build of soot could create a fire hazard causing a possible chimney fire. The flue risks becoming blocked by soot, brickwork falling, nesting birds or even smoke coming back into the room.
During your annual sweep and inspection, we thoroughly inspect all appliances
Smokeless Fuel: Once a year
Wood: Every 6 Months
Bituminous Coal: Every 6 Months
Gas: Once a year
The general consensus and most common answer is once yearly if moderately used
A sweep usually takes 40 - 90 minutes plus, depending on the type of appliance and deposits removed. Occasionally we come across some surprises and it may take longer but we will discuss this with you onsite at the time.
Generally no.
Occasionally we come across excessive soot built up, poorly installed appliances or stubborn birds nests. We do are upmost to contain the dust and use dust sheets. We screen off the opening and sweep the chimney through the screen, through it’s whole length with a Brush and sweep rods. The soot and dust that falls down will fall behind the screen and our vacuum is used to keep the particles behind the screen. Once the job is completed and swept, the screening is taken down and the deposit’s and soot from the chimney is vacuumed up.
Furniture does not need to be removed from the room, but if we do recommend if you have extremely light coloured/white furniture/carpet etc that some precautionary measures should be taken by the customer.
Yes we supply a certificate to prove the sweep has been completed, at times we also may have to issue warning notices if the appliance is deemed unsafe.
Yes we are fully insured for the work carried out. We have full liability insurance, including employee liability insurance to cover any incident.
If a fault occurs during sweeping, this is not the fault of the sweep; for a chimney and items connected to the installation to be considered fit for use, it must be in such condition that it can be safely cleaned and tested. If damage is caused during sweeping, this suggests an underlying fault which simply was exposed by the sweeping process.

If damage is caused during sweeping it suggests an underlying fault due to poor installation, misuse or age which was exposed by the sweeping process.
